about
II love photography. And I love technology. For years I have been booked as an industrial photographer for clients from Germany and Europe. I photograph subjects such as mechanical engineering, automation, the steel industry, the chemical industry, aerospace, research, development and medical technology. As different as these topics are, they have one thing in common - the photography always takes place behind closed doors. This is also the name of my project - Behind Closed Doors.
Parallel to my commercial work, I try to realize photographs for my own projects whenever possible. I see my photography as an inventory of the technologies of our time. I try to observe in detail and find motifs that correspond to my interpretation of industrial and technical aesthetics at the beginning of the 3rd millennium.
I am fascinated by these technologies and the people who work, develop and research them. Here on this website you will find fine art photography on the subject of technology.
I am working on the following series:
WORK - In his photographs, Wolfram Schroll is interested in people and machines in modern industrial production processes. For the trained industrial photographer, his fascination with technology is the starting point for his black and white images. Under the title “WORK”, he takes us into rooms and areas that are normally inaccessible. Wolfram Schroll focuses on the ambivalent relationship between people and machines. In his pictures, people often appear small and lost, threatening to disappear in large technical installations. Not only symbolically do these photographs point to current issues surrounding the development of artificial intelligence.

Time Shift - similar to analog multiple exposures, I merge the photographs taken during one exposure to create a new photo. In this way, a temporally stretched image is created. These superimpositions lead to an intensive and abstract depiction of complex industrial processes.
Beautiful Machines - “I love machines. Both big and small. Complicated ones like the Eurofighter flight simulator or very careful ones, like the assembly machine that inserts valves into engine blocks almost tenderly. When I was 20, I photographed my first machine during my apprenticeship, a lathe, illuminated with blue and red light, which was innovative at the time. I no longer do that today, but my fascination for complex technology remains.
